Gamified E-Learning in the Aerospace Industry

Context and Challenges

Space launchers are at the heart of innovation, security and defense in the aerospace industry. Their role is crucial, whether it involves putting satellites into orbit, exploring space or supplying space stations. In this demanding sector, employee training is a strategic lever for guaranteeing operational excellence and the integration of new talent.

NOVAE took on an ambitious challenge: to hybridize a face-to-face training course dedicated to discovering launchers for ArianeGroup. The objective? To make learning the basics accessible, fun and autonomous, even before the face-to-face session, for all employees — whether they are newcomers or experienced. Whether remotely or in person, the challenge was the same: to offer a solution where the learner feels guided.

Details of the "Launchers Quest" Mission

NOVAE designed and developed "Launchers Quest", a gamified, dynamic and interactive e-learning module, led by expert characters. An educational adventure where each learner builds their own launch base, step by step.

1. Needs analysis: close collaboration with ArianeGroup to identify technical and educational requirements, as well as end-user expectations.
2. Production of a 45-minute module: creation of an immersive educational and graphic concept to introduce the different concepts: types of launchers and their missions, their operation and design stages, and ArianeGroup's expertise. Integration of motion design video capsules and formative interactions to boost learning, as well as a summative quiz.
3. Multilingual localization: initially developed in English - then translated into two other languages: French and German.

Solutions Developed

The chosen approach is based on a guide character who welcomes and accompanies the learner in their discovery of launchers, creating an engaging common thread. Together, they meet other expert characters to explore the different themes of the module.

Each expert character thus embodies a chapter in which they deliver content in different formats, essentially interactive and animated (motion design video capsules). At the end of the chapter, they question the learner to reinforce the acquisition of key messages.

Finally, the module is built around a motivating game mechanic. Throughout the chapters, the learner collects the building blocks of their launch base. A way to stimulate their progress and create a sense of accomplishment at each stage.
